A Clean House? It’s Possible!

All moms are busy. Even super moms can’t keep up with the demand of a house sometimes! I don’t think I’ve met one yet who says, “Oh, I just don’t know what to do with all the time I have! My house is sparkling clean and every errand I’ve ever needed to run is complete. I’ll just sit and eat some bon-bons!”

If you’re out there, I would recommend you not identify yourself lest other moms find you and pile on their tasks to your empty t0-do list.

But I digress.

This third pregnancy has certainly thrown me for a loop, and my poor house has shown that. I’ve had to neglect deep cleaning to make sure my kids and I are fed, clothed and clean in-between whatever weird symptoms I’m having that day. Sometimes you just have to prioritize. I think we’ve all been there. So when I was asked to review Cottage Care, I enthusiastically said, “Y-E-S!”

When I booked my cleaning, I was greeted by a friendly recording informing me someone would be on the line soon. Someone indeed was. My appointment was booked quickly by one of the friendliest people I’ve ever spoken with on the phone. She informed me they would be at my house between 9 and 9:30 a.m.

My phone rang a little while later and I was able to speak with Gwen, the owner. She warmly greeted me, asked if I had any questions and then asked me a few specifics about my home. She walked me through the process they would use on each room and confirmed again the time of my appointment. Just a few hours after contacting them, I’d already had two friendly points of contact.

I had scheduled my appointment for a Monday which, as I would come to find, was a terrible idea because on the weekends we kind of let things go a little with us being so busy. This weekend was no exception – running from place to place, grocery shopping, cooking and not much cleaning. When Shana showed up, I had straightened up but she still had her work cut out for her. She asked me what I needed done and we decided she’d do my kitchen, living area, front bathroom and my bedroom.

As she began to clean I noticed she started at the top, dusting and then cleaning everything top to bottom. She wiped my cabinets, counters, stove and finally swept the floor. My sink has never been so sparkling!

I asked what she was using for each task, and she explained that all of their products are non-toxic, eco-friendly and non-abrasive. Cottage Care ensures each of the cleaners they use are safe for everyone, including their employees. That was important to me as we try to be as non-toxic as possible in our home. I appreciated the care they took in making sure our house was not only clean but also safe for my family, crew members and the environment.

As she worked, she had no problem engaging my spirited 3-year-old. In true mom fashion, I even had a 5-minute breakdown from my 2-year-old that required my attention, and Shana didn’t bat an eye. My daughter talked her ear off about everything she could, and she graciously listened and answered questions. It was wonderful not only to have someone take the burden of cleaning my shower from me but also be so wonderful and caring with my children.

After she had finished cleaning she wished me well with my pregnancy and motherhood journey and we hugged. A bit later, Gwen came to my door as she does with all first-time cleaning clients and asked me about my experience and completed a quality check. She was genuine and sweet, interested not just in my opinions, but in me as a person.

My experience with Cottage Care far exceeded my expectations for a cleaning service. I’ve never had my house professionally cleaned before but I will be including it in my budget from now on. Having someone else come in and free me up to focus on my children, work and projects lifted an incredible burden off my shoulders, one I didn’t even fully realize was there.

  4. Let’s face it, YOU’RE BUSY! Every once in a while you deserve a break from scrubbing the stove so you can devote your undivided attention to your family, your friends or even yourself. (I know, I know. Breathe.)

Hey, busy mom. I see you. Guess what? For just a few moments I get to say, “Oh, I don’t know what to do with all this free time!” I’m sure I’ll find ways to fill it up but, man, does it feel good to be this way just for a minute.
