A Day Date in Downtown Lee’s Summit

Being a born and raised Kansas girl, I was reluctant when my then-fiancé, now-husband and I were gearing up to move across the border to Tiger Country (Missouri) due to job changes. We were currently living in Lawrence, KS—Rock Chalk!—and I knew that moving meant I was going to be missing all of my favorite spots to get great beer, food, and enjoy some unique shopping experiences. Enter: Downtown Lee’s Summit.

One of our first weekends in our new city, my husband and I wanted to do a little exploring. We had heard about a delicious pizza spot in Downtown Lee’s Summit and wanted to check it out. Let me tell you, it was love at first sight. All of the shops, restaurants, and outdoor seating was exactly what I was missing from my previous life in Lawrence.

We have now lived in Lee’s Summit for four years and downtown is our first place to take out-of-town friends and family, where I took our newborn daughter on walks during my maternity leave so I could get out of the house for a bit, and where we ordered tremendous amounts of carryout during the shutdown.

Some Suggestions for a Day Date in Downtown Lee’s Summit

If you choose to make this a weekend date, you can start your Saturday morning out at the Farmer’s Market. Many local venders line up along the street. It is a great place to get a feel for what Lee’s Summit has to offer. Note: There is a Farmer’s Market on Wednesday mornings as well that is smaller in scope.

After gathering your goodies and produce, Third Street Social offers a delicious weekend brunch with breakfast cocktails and tasty breakfast items.

After the Farmer’s Market and brunch, stop by Embers Candle Bar and learn how to pour uniquely scented candles, or plan a fun date activity by scheduling a spot at Exit Room, Lee’s Summit’s very own escape room! You can also check out all of the other shopping available in the area.

If you both are into breweries, you will have plenty of options! Grains and Taps, Smoke Brewing Company, and Fringe Beerworks all offer a variety of beer and food options. Prefer wine? Red Door Wine Store has a wide range of wines, some even on tap! And you cannot beat their happy hour prices. If you and your S.O. are more craft cocktail kind of people, then The W, Hand and Glove, or Libations and Company might be more up your alley.

Want to make a night of it?

For dinner, look no further than A Thyme for Everything. They offer couples cooking classes, so you and your plus one can learn a new recipe together from top-notch chefs who will walk you through step-by-step instructions on preparation of the meal from start to finish.

Fourth Fridays Art Walks started this spring and run through August. The next one is Friday, July 23rd, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Spend the evening taking in showcases from local artists and live music performances.

Overall, there is something for every couple’s ideal day date in Downtown Lee’s Summit. What will be the first thing you do when you visit?

Darin Wisner
My name is Darin Wisner. No, my parents did not think they were having a boy, they just love unique gender-neutral names. I have been happily married to my Husband Greg for two years now, and we have a smiley, cuddly, and loving seven-month old girl. We also have two doggie daughters, Caroline and Shasta. My sisters and I are also the primary caretaker for our Dad. I am a born and raised Kansas City Metro girl, moved to Lawrence, KS for my first-ever teaching job, and moved back to the Lee’s Summit area once I got married. I am a proud high school teacher coming from a family of educators, as well as a high school softball coach. I love everything Kansas City has to offer, and I hope to be a source for other first time Mom’s in the KC area to find fun, exciting things to do while navigating the new life of motherhood.
