An Evening in Spain via Kansas City

labodega1My husband and I desperately love our 3 children. They are cute, fun and make our lives very fulfilling. However there are days when we wonder what monster climbed into their brains and made them act so . . . childish. So it’s on those days that we look each other in the eye and say the words every couple needs to say more often: “We need a date night.”

One such night happened for us a few weeks ago. I begged and pleaded for my husband to take me out to my favorite Kansas City restaurant. I didn’t have to beg too much because my husband happens to love this place too.

La Bodega is a hidden gem and if you haven’t tried it yet, you are missing out! Every time we go there, I feel like I’m transporting back to our lives in Spain where the food is amazing, the atmosphere is “tranquilo” and time seems to stop. We always hit up the location on SW Boulevard and the moment I walk in I feel like I’m a real person, with adult tastes. (no chicken nugget mess to clean up here!) The atmosphere is such a fun date night location because it has an upscale yet relaxed feel about it. Between the colorful art work on the walls and the spread of Spanish tapas, you will begin to think you’ve landed in Madrid or taken a trip to Kansas City’s sister city Sevilla.

There is much to love about La Bodega. I love it so much that some plans are in the works for YOU to be able to come enjoy this great locale. Until then, I’d encourage you to drop a few hints for your hubby. It’s time he takes you on a good date night and you now know just where to go.

Hello! Kansas City has been our home for the past 3 years and we love it. We moved here after a 2 year stint in Madrid, Spain working for a Christian non-profit. Although I will always have a bad case of wanderlust, I’m a Midwest girl through and through. Educated at Iowa State University as a Spanish teacher, I taught K-6th grade students the joy of learning another language for 2 years. In 2007 I left the world of teaching and became a full time Mama to our first child Renae. Her little brothers Sammy and Colton arrived 2 and 4 years later and between the 3 of them, they keep me busy. I also work for the Skybridge Community which assists American expats as they adjust to and prepare for life in another country. I find great joy in connecting people together, meeting new people, and learning about those that are different from me. Most days you’ll find me spending my mornings at the YMCA where I like to get my Zumba groove on and ending each day watching House Hunters International. I’m looking forward to connecting with all of you great KC Moms!
