Are Water Parks Out of the Budget This Summer? Try This

Water play is one of the top summer activities that kids love. It‘s a great way to cool off in the heat, and it’s fun! Pools and water parks are great options for water fun in the sun, but frequent attendance at those facilities can become costly. Season passes can save families a lot of money, but may not be affordable for many. Splash pads are fun and usually free, but there’s another free or low-cost option that doesn’t require travel every time the kids want to splash around: water fun at home.

There are a number of options to turn your own yard into a splash pad. Most of the items can be found a local dollar store or even in your home. Here are a few of our favorites:

Slip and Slide. These can be found for as low as $15 or created using something you already have: trash bags!

Super Soakers. My son and nephews have a blast chasing each other around with those things.

A pool. We bought our little pool for $10 at a garage sale years ago when the kids were smaller.

There are also other affordable ideas on Pinterest, such as DIY water sprinklers and water games created using items that are recycled and/or purchased from Dollar Tree. I hope you have as much fun as we did with each activity. Have a great summer!

I’m Britney! I was born and raised in Kansas City, MO. My husband and I have three children. Two years ago we adopted our first fur baby, a handsome black lab. My active family loves spending time outdoors and going on road trips. After being a stay-at-home mom for 7 years I decided to rejoin the workforce part-time. I absolutely love being able to express myself creatively and over the years have become a serial hobbyist. My hobbies include photography, graphic design, DIY, blogging, creating YouTube videos, and reading too many interior design blogs. If binge-watching shows on Netflix is a hobby, add that to the list.
