Back to School Beauty with the “NotSoSoccerMom”

Fall is a great time for moms. Kids are back in school, boots and jeans make their return, Chiefs football is ramping up … did I mention the kids are back in school?  It’s also the perfect time to update your look with new beauty innovations.

I think a beautiful face and outlook start with beautiful skin.  Boscia is already a huge favorite of mine due to their instant “event ready” bosciawhite and black masks. They continue to impress me with Japanese heritage in mind with the new Konjac Cleansing Sponge. Reminiscent of the BuffPuff of yesterday, the sponge  is 100 % Konjac Root, an Asian-cultivated, root-based vegetable that the Japanese have traditionally used as a detoxifying dietary staple and as a calming, naturally exfoliating sponge for delicate skin. It also cleanses and exfoliates without wearing your skin out. What’s not to love? Last time I checked, you can get it at Sephora for $18.

korresAnother product I love is Korres’ Yoghurt Advanced Nourishing Sleeping Facial.  Everyone should have a mask wardrobe – just like they do shoes. This mask from the Greek cosmetic line Korres is the perfect nighttime treatment.  I noticed  brighter skin that needed much less makeup the next morning! I just put it on before bed and let it do its magic. At $45, it also is a delightful price for a nighttime treatment that actually WORKS! You can find this beauty gem at HSN.

If you thought I was going to stop after two beauty tips, you might be crazy. (Now you know how much I love talking about this kind of stuff!) The Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation is another fave. Tarte’s founder Maureen Kelly was widowed by age thirty after her husband perished in Tower 2 on 9/11.  The brand has mirrored Kelly’s strength and grace and has grown from a boutique line with a few products to a full-range powerhouse available in all major beauty outlets.  Kelly has rung the bell with another fabulous foundation formula. While mineral makeups can still be scary for some as the concept of putting on a powder connotes drying, this mineral makeup magically defies that notion by providing pore-fecting moisturizing coverage even better than many liquid formulas.  Making it even more appealing is the great shade range, must-have application brush and built-in sifting mechanism the prevents too much product from jumping onto your brush (or bathroom floor or counter). The Tarte foundation is available on Ulta for $36.

Let’s not forget to pass the vino!  Each year, fall comes with a full palette of wines and that’s true for this year’s color selection, as well. Laura Geller has offered a beautiful kit! (TIP: Kits are a great way to try many things in one line and always a great value, as well.)  This assortment is fortified with antioxidants, Resveratrol and Grapeseed Oil, for youthful, healthy-looking skin. It’s everything you love about red wine in one “get gorgeous” collection which includes Laura’s cult-favorite Spackle Supercharged Primer; Balance-n-Brighten Baked Color Correcting Foundation; Baked Impressions Blush and Eye Shadow; and Color-Enriched Anti-Aging Lipstick. The kit also comes with a cute wine glass charm!

A final tip: Don’t try to re-invent everything at once. Pick a fall color and eyes or lips; one at a time. Pick a new skincare item and introduce it slowly so you can see if it works for you. And most important: HAVE FUN!
