Call me basic if you want but there is nothing better than when it is pumpkin season (or as some call it, fall). I eagerly check Trader Joes for their pumpkin payload including the mini pumpkin covered pretzels, pumpkin chocolate chip oatmeal cookies, and pumpkin ice cream. Aldi carries the best dessert pumpkin pie hummus. I was once known to spend time stalking Hyvee to hoard Jiffy’s whipped pumpkin peanut butter and had accumulated 20 jars — still a little hurt that I haven’t been able to find it for the last three years.
Pumpkin cream cheese, pumpkin bagels, pumpkin bread, and Starbucks pumpkin cold brew (the PSL is trash — I said what I said) are some of my favorites. Although pumpkin is my all time favorite, I also have an affinity for salted caramel and apple flavored goodies. I think I have demonstrated my love for fall goodies, and Kansas City local spots do not disappoint. Be sure to check some of these KC spots for the best fall treats.
Big Daddy’s Donuts (Raymore + Belton)
This local donut shop is my family’s favorite donut shop because their homemade cake donuts and cronuts are to die for. At this time of year, the pumpkin cake donuts and pumpkin donuts with cream cheese frosting are amazing!
Meshuggah Bagels (multiple locations)
Get the apple pie cream cheese schmear — this one is very limited time only!
Betty Raes (River Market + Waldo)
Honestly if you haven’t had this ice cream, can you really call yourself a true Kansas Citian? We all know that they are constantly reinventing the possibility of ice cream flavors and the fall season isn’t any different. Try the Pumpkin Cheesecake, Monster Mash, or Cinnamon Roll.
Summer Moon Coffee (Overland Park)
Try the Autumn Moon Latte; you won’t regret it.
Love Coffee (Lee’s Summit)
Try the Pumpkin Spice Chai Tea Latte (hot).
Gusto Coffee (Lee’s Summit)
Try the Brown Sugar Cinnamon Latte (hot) at Gusto; tastes like fall in a cup!
McLain’s Bakery KC (multiple locations)
They introduced a new mini Caramel Pecan Cheesecake (full sizes available for the holiday season). Also, their pumpkin spice latte and pumpkin cupcake is a combo perfect for a fall afternoon treat!
Seven Swans Creperie (Kansas City)
Try the Campfire Crepe – vanilla marshmallows, ganache chocolate, and homemade graham crackers in dessert style crepe.
Johnson Farms Plants & Pumpkins (Belton)
Pumpkin sugar donuts and apple cider slushie are a must when visiting to do your fall activities. It’s our favorite location for all things fall!
Boulevard Brewery (Kansas City)
I can’t leave out the adult beverages from KCMC’s favorite brewery. Try the fall limited release, the Magic Drip (barrel aged wheated imperial stout with fresh Colombian coffee from another KC favorite, Messenger Coffee). Even the packaging looks magical! Also try the Tart Apple Radler.
KC Wine Co (Olathe)
This is probably one of my favorite wineries for the simple fact that they have so many events to attend all year long! How can you go wrong with a Mean Girls trivia and wine pairing? Not only do they host the KC Pumpkin Patch during this time of year but they also have Spiked Cider slushies.
