Mommy and Me Painting at Pinot’s Palette

This post is sponsored by Summit Fair. Opinions, however, belong to the writer.

My five-year-old, Madeline and I recently created our Summer Super Fun Adventure List. Since this is her last summer before starting kindergarten and “big school” we are trying to pack in as much fun as we possibly can. One of the items on our list was to “Paint a Picture.”

We decided to check out Pinot’s Palette at Summit Fair in Lee’s Summit for a little mommy and me  painting fun. We sat down and took a look at their event calendar and all of our painting options – unicorns, panda bears, seahorses, and more. There were so many super cute options it was hard to decide. We settled on a pretty mermaid. A painting that reminded us both a bit of our favorite mermaid, Ariel.

The day of our painting adventure, we spent the afternoon shopping at Summit Fair hitting up JC Penney, Macy’s, and our favorite H&M.

We decided to make a pre-painting stop at the Starbucks inside the nearby Macy’s for some Frappuccinos since it was nearing 100 degrees on this particular Saturday. Next time I’m thinking  a quick stop by Topsy’s for popcorn and a limeade will be our game plan.

At Pinot’s Palette you are encouraged to bring snacks and the beverage of your choice. Side note: adult painters, this is the perfect occasion to grab your favorite bottle of wine or beer so you can sip and paint along.

Upon entering the painting studio, we were immediately greeted by a friendly staff and were able to find our spots at the tables. Pinot’s Palette provides everything you need to create your own masterpiece, no need to bring your own paints or canvas. Even aprons are provided to help keep your clothes free from paint splatter. We later were grateful for the aprons when our instructor told us to splatter white paint across our canvas. My phone case however is slightly speckled. They do encourage you to place purses, jackets, and phones inside of the cubbies along the front wall to help avoid any paint mishaps.

The instructor was fabulous and guided us step-by-step through the painting. She was there to offer help, suggestions, and encouragement every step of the way. So even if you don’t have an artistic bone in your body, you will be able to complete a painting. The whole painting took around two hours to complete with several breaks to let the paint dry and grab a drink or snack, or go wash some of the paint off your hands.

While the idea of a paint and sip party might not seem very family friendly, Pinot’s Palette offers plenty of specially designed classes that are meant to be enjoyed by the little artists in your family. Children ages 3 and up may come to any of the Open Studio sessions (accompanied by an adult), children ages 5 and up may attend Little Brushes classes, and Sundays are for their Family Fun Class. However, keep in mind that no children under 13 are allowed at the public paint and sip events.

The class Madeline and I choose to attend was a Little Brushes class. It was specially designed for kids ages 5 and up. So this was the perfect class for us novice painters. While the paintings are simple enough to make it easy for even the youngest to follow along, there were still plenty of details and fun new techniques that made it interesting for a slightly more experienced painter.

Pinot’s Palette offers fun and affordable birthday party packages too and would make an excellent Girls Night Out or Date Night. I can’t wait to plan a date night for me and the hubby soon. We had a fabulous time painting our matching mermaids and will definitely be making Pinot’s Pallet part of all of our super fun adventure lists from now on.
