No Time to Mow? There’s an App for That!

I don’t know about you, but I do not have a green thumb. I kill houseplants. If it were possible to kill fake flowers, I would manage to find a way. Gardening and yard work are not things I enjoy. And even if they were, as I’m sure is the case with many of you, I just don’t have a ton of free time to dedicate to it. So when I found out there’s an app to help with your yard, I jumped at the chance to try it out.

It’s called Lula and it’s super simple. All you do is download the app and then fill out some basic information including your address with a map showing your yard area. They offer several home-based services like home cleaning and HVAC but I got to try out the Lawn Care area which includes mowing, leaf removal, sprinkler start-up and sprinkler shutdown.

On one of the only days when it wasn’t snowing or freezing cold, I fired up the app and selected the sprinkler start-up option. The app easily walks you through what to do and gives you a place to make additional comments or provide pictures. We are installing a playset soon so I asked if the crew would put flags on my sprinkler heads so we don’t accidentally cover them up. You then have the option to schedule the service for later or to request service now. If you request it immediately, a provider will arrive in four hours or less. If you schedule it for later, you can pick a date and a two-hour window. I scheduled it for a time when I knew I’d be home because they would need to get in my garage. You also see the price up front at this point. For example, this service was $84.99. This is where I was really impressed with the communication from Lula. I immediately got a notification saying my request had been received. I then received another notification saying my job had been claimed and that included information about the person who would be coming to my house. It had his name and picture, which made me feel more comfortable knowing exactly who to expect.

On the day and time I chose, I received a message that the guy was on his way to my house. He arrived within 10 minutes of when my two-hour window opened. He was very nice and professional and even had the flags ready to locate my sprinkler heads as I’d requested on the app. There were zero problems, and he was done with our sprinkler set-up in about 30 minutes. It was the easiest thing I’d done all week.

I also used Lula within the past few days to get the lawn mowed. Again, same easy service as before and, this time, I didn’t even have to be there! The cost for this was $46.12 but it depends on the size of your yard. I received notifications when the crew was on their way and again when the job was completed.

I should also mention that I had a couple questions along the way and there is a live chat feature on the app that is awesome. I got my questions answered instantly and the person I chatted with provided great customer service.

While the yard mowing price was a little steep, I will likely use Lula again in the future if I get into a bind with not having time to do yard work. We will very likely use it to close down the sprinkler system as well. And I’m super interested in the house cleaning service. Now can they add a babysitting service already? Kidding. Kind of.
