Travel Under the Sea at Crown Center’s New FREE Exhibit

Crown Center free exhibit, Under the Sea

This post is sponsored by Crown Center, your headquarters for summer fun in Kansas City!

Summer is here! As moms, we are constantly looking for activities to do with our kids where we can escape the heat and not break the bank. Crown Center is here to save the day with another one of their wonderful free exhibits!

Under the Sea Adventure is a fun, creative experience where your kids can search for buried treasure, climb aboard a pirate ship, and check out the beautifully painted murals that line the walls. My kids loved playing hide and seek in the various nooks and crannies, such as the mermaid’s house. My son especially loved to drive the submarine! And of course the pirate ship was a huge hit.

This awesome and FREE exhibit is open now and runs through September 6. Plenty of time for you to plan a visit to check it out, in addition to a myriad of other great summer activities Crown Center has to offer.

Make sure you check out the Passport to Summer Fun where your family can choose from a list of missions to complete. As you complete each experience, you receive a stamp for your passport. Six stamps will earn you a $25 gift card to Crown Center and 10 stamps will earn you $50! How cool is that? This is also a great way to get rewarded for things you will want to do this Summer and and a chance to try a few new things, too! Passports with at least six stamps can be turned in to Crown Center Customer Service before 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 6, – then happy shopping or dining!

KCMC Mom Tips

  • Hours.  Check it out Monday – Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. Entry may be limited to capacity to allow for social distancing.
  • Restrooms. Two family restrooms are located right outside the exhibit’s entrance.
  • Parking. Crown Center offers three hours of free parking for all guests with a validation slip from any Crown Center shop or restaurant. Get another three hours free, six hours in total, when you spend $25 or more at any shop or restaurant.  Just take your receipts to Crown Center Customer Service for the validation slip. Or after 6:30 p.m. on Friday, it is FREE all weekend long!
  • Have babies in a stroller or someone in a wheelchair? Make sure to park on levels 2a or 3a for easy access to the elevators. Stroller parking is located inside the exhibit (instead of out in the entrance area).
  • Hungry? Grab a snack or dine at one of the many family-friendly dining options. Our favorites are Spin! Pizza for Kids Eat Free on Sundays and Fritz’s for yummy cheeseburgers, milkshakes and food delivered by a train! Some new options include Burnt End BBQ and coming soon – La Fuente Mexican Street Food!
  • Missing Kaleidoscope? Us too, and hopefully it will be open again soon! Until then, stop by Crown Center Customer Service for a FREE craft kit from Kaleidescope for some goodies to take home!
  • Want to make a weekend out of it? Enjoy a Kansas City Staycation at Crown Center and stay at the Westin Crown Center. One of our favorite spots in Kansas City. We put together this Staycation Guide to keep you busy all summer long!

Hi! I'm Megan, former teacher turned stay-at-home-but-never-home mom to Peyton, 7, and Gage, 4. I host the Kansas City MomCast podcast! I'm married to the most patient person on this earth, Chris, and we live in Overland Park with our kids, an insane lab, and two guinea pigs. You can find me over committing to everything, reading informational and self-help texts, listening to podcasts, organizing, spending time with friends over margaritas, thrifting, and staying up way too late to have peace and serenity. I love people and hearing their stories and look forward to connecting with KCMC readers!
