Your Next Date Night In, Courtesy of Burgers’ Smokehouse

I’ll be the first to admit that sometimes dinner and a movie sound boring. When my husband and I get a chance to have a date night, I find that we usually have more fun if we are doing something that allows us to interact and talk. Cooking a meal together is definitely my idea of a fun date night activity—minus the shopping, of course.

I recently got the chance to try a meal from Burgers’ Smokehouse, and although I made this meal on a regular Thursday, I can’t help but think that this pre-assembled, ready-to-cook meal kit would make a great date night activity—no shopping required (phew!). Burgers’ Smokehouse has many meal kits to choose from: you can choose prime rib, smoked pork chops, BBQ ribs, steak, honey ham, chicken, and several other options. Each meal comes frozen with two sides and a dessert, and serves six people. All you have to do is thaw, cook, and enjoy!

We chose the premium steak meal kit, which comes with four ribeye steaks, twice baked potatoes and baked beans, with a delicious-looking lemon cake for dessert. Here I am unboxing my meal from Burgers’ Smokehouse – you can see how everything comes frozen and ready to thaw.

The meal showed up at my house in a large styrofoam box, and the food was packed in dry ice, which was nice: if you’re at work or out and about when the meal comes, you don’t have to worry about it spoiling on the porch. When the meal arrived on Wednesday, I unpacked everything and let it thaw in the fridge for a day.

When dinner time rolled around on Thursday, everything was ready to go. The steaks were nice and thawed and ready to cook. The twice-baked potatoes needed to bake for a little while in the oven, so I threw those in first. I chose to sear and cook the ribeyes in a pan on the stove, though I’m sure they’d be delicious on the grill as well. The steaks cooked pretty quickly on the stove while I heated up the baked beans on another burner. It took less than 15 minutes to cook the steak and beans, and dinner was served.

Burgers' Smokehouse dinner

Not only would this be a great option for busy seasons but it’s a fantastic gift idea for your friends who are need a meal (think, Meal Train!).

I loved how easy this meal was to make. Because everything was prepped and ready to cook, I didn’t have to do any planning at all (and I definitely didn’t have to go to the store!). It was so nice to be able to quickly serve up a restaurant-level meal without the hassle of going to the grocery store or planning a menu.

I have to say, the gourmet lemon cake was my absolute favorite. Moist, with a delicate lemon flavor and decorated with white chocolate shavings, I probably could have eaten the whole cake myself, though I’m fairly certain my toddler would have fought me for it. It was definitely his favorite, too!

For my next meal, I’d love to try the BBQ rib feast meal, which also comes with oven baked mac and cheese, country style green beans, and strawberry rhubarb pie. Besides catering to my inner introvert, one of the many benefits of ordering one of these meals instead of going out to a restaurant is that, after dinner, I can immediately slide into a food coma on the couch. It’s a win-win for everyone.
