5 Reasons to Add the Mavericks to Your Winter Bucket List

The Kansas City Moms Blog team had an opportunity to experience a family night out at the Kansas City Mavericks, a ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Calgary Flames and AHL’s Stockton Heat. Many of us were new to the Mavericks, and were excited to find a great family outing option in Kansas City. (Check out our Facebook Live from Opening Night!)

Here are five reasons your family should add the Mavericks to your winter bucket list:

1. Free parking – No crazy parking fees at Silverstein Arena. Lots of parking available with just a short walk inside. Your family will be seated and ready for hockey action in no time!

2. Kid Friendly Food – From Domino’s pizza, to nachos, hot dogs, refillable popcorn, chicken nuggets, and pretzels (did we say bottomless popcorn because that was clearly our kid’s favorites?). There were plenty of options to feed our hungry kids. There was something to please every picky eater in the bunch and we know you’ll find something your family will love, too. Mom and Dad can enjoy the Beer Garden featuring locally brewed KC Bier Co. and other adult beverages at bars around the arena.

3. Live action and entertainment – Have you ever taken your kids to other sporting events and all they do is keep getting up and down and not watching the game?! At the Mavericks, my kids WATCHED THE ENTIRE GAME! They were amazed at the live hockey action, danced to the live music, cheered with the cowbells, and threw pucks onto the ice during chuck-a-puck! There was even a little of our own hockey action in between quarters at our own seats. I’ve never seen my kids so engaged in a sporting event EVER, including their own baseball games that they’re playing in!

4. Theme Nights – If the live action and entertainment wasn’t enough for your kids, the Mavericks has special family theme nights throughout the season. Some of our favorites coming up are:

  • Marvel Night & Teddy Bear Toss (12/1): the Mavericks will be in special Iron Man themed uniforms with Planet Comicon Marvel superheroes around the arena. Fans are asked to bring teddy bears to throw on the ice after the home team lights the lamp for the first time. Bears will be donated to kids in need by way of three charities.
  • Star Wars Night (12/8): Join characters on the concourse and dress up as your favorite Star Wars character for a night of family fun and hockey that will be out of this world!
  • Harry Potter (1/19): A night of witchcraft and wizardry will take place on Jan. 19 against Wichita. The arena will be divided into the school’s houses, so be sure to check the arena map closer to the game! All aboard the Hogwarts Express!
  • TMNT & Macs Birthday (2/2): Celebrate mascot Mac’s Birthday with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle characters. All guests receive a Mac bobblehead!
  • Cheeze’s Princess Party (3/2): Celebrate mascot Cheeze’s birthday with a princess party. Guests will receive a tiara!

5. Discounted Tickets – The Mavericks are giving Kansas City Moms Blog readers the chance to buy tickets a special discounted rate. Tickets start at just $14 and make a great Experience Gift idea for Christmas! Get yours today!

This Winter, take the drive down I-70 to Silverstein Arena. With the Mavericks off to their best start in season history, you’re sure to see a great game and have a fun family night out!
