Finding Mom Community | Kansas City MomCast Episode 37

In our latest episode, we are talking about mom community — what is it and how to find it. We always hear the importance of finding a village, but where is it?!

Local mom and director of the community program, Building Better Moms (BBM), Susan Brown, discusses the benefits of community, the importance of authenticity, and different types and seasons of friends. Susan talks to us about how to find community in Kansas City.

We are not meant to do this alone, and we hope you find encouragement in today’s episode!

Meet Susan Brown

As a full time mom of three, Susan Brown is passionate about finding and building community. Susan is the director of Building Better Moms, an organization that meets each woman wherever she is in her motherhood journey as moms learn, grow and serve together. Whether it’s is in your neighborhood, your place of worship, your kids’ school or the aisles of Aldi, we are meant to do life together. Susan loves to talk through the barriers that prevent us from making real connections and help us find an authentic community to make motherhood more fulfilling, more enriching, and more fun.

What We’re Loving In Kansas City

Strang Park

Go check out Overland Park’s first all inclusive park! This park has literally everything and is great for all ages. It features a 30-foot tower and slide, a sensory tunnel, climbing cargo nets, in-ground trampolines and more.  It also has a separate toddler playground featuring whimsical Farmers’ Market-themed play structures and a nature play area, basketball and tennis courts, restrooms, and a gaming promenade with cornhole, checkerboard tables and oversized lawn chess.

Conveniently located right by the Central Resource Johnson County Library, McDonald’s (with an indoor play place), and Bear Necessities Coffee Bar — need I say more? Make a day of it and you will not regret it!

Check out our park guide for other great parks in KC!

Megan Coffey
Hi! I'm Megan, former teacher turned stay-at-home-but-never-home mom to Peyton, 7, and Gage, 4. I host the Kansas City MomCast podcast! I'm married to the most patient person on this earth, Chris, and we live in Overland Park with our kids, an insane lab, and two guinea pigs. You can find me over committing to everything, reading informational and self-help texts, listening to podcasts, organizing, spending time with friends over margaritas, thrifting, and staying up way too late to have peace and serenity. I love people and hearing their stories and look forward to connecting with KCMC readers!
