Music Classes

Many programs offer a free sample class to see if it’s a good fit for your family. Other things to know about these music programs: most classes meet weekly and expect parent/caregiver participation. Some programs require that you register for an entire fall, spring, or summer session (sessions vary anywhere from 8-14 weeks). Other programs are drop-in, and no registration is required. Cost varies based on length of the session, materials, and number of children enrolled. Some classes are geared toward the entire family and offer a discount for siblings (or a flat rate for families).

Be sure to double check policies and schedules as COVID affects in-person offerings.

Gymboree Play and Music: Located in Leawood, KS. Classes for ages 6 months – 5 years. Open to members only and they have a monthly fee for weekly classes. You can check it out with a free preview class.

Kindermusik: Classes for newborns through age 7. Some instructors also offer family classes for siblings to attend together. Some of these classes charge by the month, others are a flat fee for the semester and provide you with at home materials such as music CDs, an instrument, and books.

MusikgartenClasses for newborns through age 5. Currently only offered at Olathe Music Academy in Olathe but check the Musikgarten website to see if any other instructors have started offering local classes.

  • All Together Now with Alma Fusco offered each semester in Mission, KS and Parkville, MO. Email Alma at [email protected] for more info on pricing and enrollment.
  • Growing in Harmony offers classes in downtown Blue Springs, MO. Follow her Facebook page for updated information about when she will be offering classes.

Music with Mar: Classes are currently offered in Blue Springs, Raymore, and Lee’s Summit. These classes are unique in that they are all mixed-age classes offered at a flat rate for all your kids to attend together. No enrollment necessary, as they are all drop-in classes. I LOVE that many of these classes meet at assisted living facilities or nursing homes and the residents are encouraged to attend and participate. It is so good for the kids and the residents to have that cross-generational experience together!

Shining Light Music: Located in Lees Summit, MO, they offer their twinkle preschool music program for kids ages 1-6. Classes are offered Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings.

Stepping Stones KC: Classes are located all over the metro area in Brookside, North Kansas City, Overland Park, KCMO, Lee’s Summit, Olathe, Fairway, and Louisburg. With over a dozen different class options geared towards different ages and interests, you might have trouble choosing which group to enroll in! There are even groups that meet outside so the kids can experience music in nature! We attended Music for Milestones when my youngest was a baby, and now go to Friday morning Sing and Share with other preschoolers. One of my favorite things about Stepping Stones KC is that all of the classes are taught by licensed music therapists!

The Learning Tree: Music and Movement with Jenny meets at the Corinth Square location on Thursdays at 10:30 AM for $5/child.

Sarah McGinnity
Sarah grew up in Manhattan, Kansas (Go Cats!), she moved to Minnesota where she met her husband, Shea. Realizing how much she hated snow in May, she convinced him to move to Kansas City in 2010. Together they have lived in Midtown, Waldo, the Plaza, and now Overland Park. Sarah is mom to 10-year-old, Henry, 7-year-old Clark and 5-year-old Lucy. She has her master’s in urban administration and is passionate about making Kansas City a more equitable and supportive community. In between the crazy, she likes to drink coffee, run, hike, travel as much as possible, and experience all things Kansas City!
